Godswell Monty did it again and took Champion Fawn and Reserve Supreme Show Champion. What a star! It was a close run thing apparently. The show champion is a junior white male with the most incredible fleece. The judge said it was a difficult decision to make as there was nearly six years between them, but on the day it just had to go to the youngster. We are off to Antwerp with him for a large show there, this coming weekend. It’s quite a risk to take and we would have loved to retire him from the show ring while he is winning, but the Benelux countries are important for our business. So fingers crossed.

We also won first place Intermediate White with a Snowmass Uncontended Royalty girl, Indira

. She is such a super girl and a great friend of mine.

Accoyo Capone, his son Felix, a young white male, got a third place in his class. It was a large class, so we are very pleased.

, took Reserve Champion Grey at the same show ! His father is our own Ivor, a lovely grey.

So, three successful shows this year and one more to come. Watch this space!

Alison and Ciano came to the show as well with their gorgeous black male Debut

So, out of 5 colour champions at the show, Alison, Ciano, Nigel and I came away with two and a half. Not bad hey ?

Our two new babies. Kimba and Frizzle

They are 10 weeks old and have recently been introduced to the alpacas – Frizzle was sat on by one of the pregnant mum’s ,but she got up and after a little bit of feeling sorry for herself got back to her normal routine of playing with Kimba, taking our slippers and generally digging her little teeth into anything that takes her fancy. Kimba meanwhile is a very typical spaniel and is adorable. As they both are!

The cats meanwhile have taken up residence in the barn. At least it will keep the mice down!

Hay arrives from Spain, with the help of Alison. A real life saver,

400 kilo bales of hay arrive

as the drought here has devastated the hay crop and there is not enough to go round. But we should be fine now. We have 12 tons in these very large bales that are now in our barn. A bit of a problem moving them, but we will handle it somehow. A relief really, as there is just no hay in the area – yields are down by 50% or more.

Godswell Monty is a light fawn  stud male, nearly five years old. He has produced some stunning cria and we hope to be able to show these in the future. He is working hard this summer, spening time in Brittany and here in Poitou-Charentes the rest of the year.

Godswell Selkie’s sire is Hanibal of Wessex, the Senior male Reserve Champion in the 2009 National Show in the UK. She has certainly inherited his father’s fleece and confirmation. She is now mated to Snowmass Uncontened Royalty and we can’t wait for her first cria.

We can’t wait to be with the alpacas, especially as the birthing season is shortly upon us.

In all we took 7 alpacas to the show which was attended by 160 alpacas from Spain, Belgium and France. They all won rosettes, with three winning their classes. We were very please with the results and bear testament to our breeding the selection programme.

We were lucky to have the help of a good friend, Michael Corbett who hauled our trailer to the show and back. Our Toyota had just blown an engine and was in dock. We are pleased to say that it is now being repaired and we will be back to normal shortly.
